The department is very well equipped with three setups to create and characterize fiber gratings (frequency-doubled argon laser, femtosecond pulsed laser and Helium-Cadmium laser) in a temperature-controlled clean room of class 10000. Among equipment dedicated to the project, we can quote:

 

  • Continuous-wave frequency-doubled Argon-ion laser emitting at 244 nm;

  • Amplified Ti:Sapphire femtosecond pulses infrared laser with second and third harmonic generation (available windows: 800 nm, 400 nm and 260 nm) from Newport;

  • Vibration damping table and opto-mechanical components for gratings manufacturing;

  • Infrared camera to visualize and align the laser beam;

  • Phase masks;

  • Horizontal and vertical translation stages;

  • LEDs, EDFAs, ASE sources, tunable lasers, supercontinuum, photodetectors, powermeters, optical spectrum analysers, OTDRs, optical vector analyser from Luna Technologies, …;

  • Sputtering chambers from Leica and Tectra to deposit metal thin films. The one from Tectra possesses two targets so that a thin layer of Chromium can be deposited on the fiber surface to enhance the gold adhesion;
